Ascensus, Visual Design Lead, June 2013 – Present

I promote Ascensus’ services and elevate the brand through digital, web, and print design while collaborating with sales leadership, marketers, writers, and developers. I am a member of a steering committee tasked to help Ascensus incorporate a thorough User Experience design process into the development of their web presence. Other projects include: a complete corporate rebranding with logo family, color palette, aesthetics, icons, infographics, photography, stationery, presentation, and other guidelines. I’ve worked on several campaigns that uplift sales tools, company culture, and recruitment efforts. I am responsible for setting creative guidelines, and insuring the quality of designs that are produced by Ascensus’ designers and our creative agencies. I also have established a design intern program where I manage, coach, and mentor our design interns.

Valken Sports, Product & Graphic Design Lead, Feb 2010 – June 2013

Products: I spearheaded the research, design, and development of soft good products at a sporting goods manufacturer, conducting the design process from concept through production. I collaborated with professional athletes, hobbyists and retailers to uncover and interpret their needs to provoke innovation, creating truly needed and useful products. I improved upon existing products and opened avenues for new products; including technical apparel, luggage, and modular military-style vests & pouches.

Graphics: Graphic design for web, print, & packaging. I created e-mail blasts, web aesthetics, and banner ads; posters, point-of-purchase displays, large-format banners, sales flyers, and catalogs; and die lines, boxes, header cards, owner’s manuals, and labels for product packaging.

Creative Management: I managed the junior designers and interns, sourced vendors & manufacturers, directed and shot product photography, wrote marketing content, and maintained a library of product samples and materials.

This course analyzed techniques of design such as rapid prototyping and evaluating interface alternatives, and how these practices inform the design of technology. Specific topics included mock-ups, field testing, principles of perception and evaluating designs with people.


Background  I am a design leader with skills and experience covering User Experience Design & Research, Visual Layout, Product Design, and Graphic Design. My degree in Industrial Design gives me a unique conceptual approach to solving complex design issues using a wide variety of tools & mediums.

Approach  I seek to discover the needs of end users, to understand the issues, and therefore achieve successful design resolutions. I have a passion for problem solving. I believe that design starts, and ends, with the user – that it should be intuitive and empowering. My design solutions are often very straightforward, which helps them accomplish their goals in a more fluid manner.

Ability  I have 6+ years of professional design experience encompassing every stage of the design process:

  • Research:  I collaborate with subject matter experts to interpret and uncover needs to improve upon existing design and open avenues for new design opportunities. I use these insights to provoke innovation and implement research-based design to create solutions that are truly useful, needed and/or desired by the end user.
  • Design:  I sketch, model, prototype, and test. I strive for simplicity and elegance in my designs, with a balance of function and form.
  • Manufacture:  I coordinate with manufacturers and vendors to bring the design to life. Colors, sizing, materials, and embellishments are defined. Samples are made, revised, and approved.
  • Package:  I design hang tags, header cards, boxes, bags, stickers, and instruction manuals for finished products and marketing pieces.
  • Market:  I conduct photo shoots and edit pictures for print and web. I create web graphics, e-mail campaigns, sales flyers, catalogs, posters, point of purchase materials, and more to market and sell products B2B and B2C alike.
